Quote of the Day

“People are going to have to work for more years, until they are 70 or 75, and just work three days a week – perhaps 11 hours a day. Having four days off would be very important to generate new entertainment activities and other ways of being occupied.”  Carlos Slim, the world’s second-richest man (sometimes the richest) told the conference in Paraguay.“With three work days a week, we would have more time to relax; for quality of life,” he said.

In exchange for working fewer days a week, we should work until the age of 70 or 75. Perhaps he hasn’t noticed but many countries are already raising the age of retirement to around 70 - without any reduction in the working hours, at least not voluntary in that many full-time jobs are being made part-time with reduced pay and benefits, increasing poverty levels. Plus a three 11-hour days is 33 hours a week and already some countries have a working work of  35 hours, so a reduction of two hours isn't such a particularly terrific deal.
