WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE LEVESON INQUIRY? (weekly poem)

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE LEVESON INQUIRY?

1/3/18. The Conservative Government, having initiated the Leveson
Inquiry, confirmed that Part 2 would be dropped entirely, having
already decided not to enact the requisite legislation after Part 1.

The Tories have on ‘Leveson’,
Gone back upon their word;
Or in correct Westminster-ese,
The Government’s—"Demurred”!

The tabloids must have one more chance,
To fumigate their soil;
For this is now the seventh time, (1)
We've tried to lance the boil.

Our freedom is to be maintained,
Quite simply by, no less;
The City and the Monarchy,
But most of all, the Press!

So its outrageous headlines can,
Still make a healthy splash;
And in the circulation wars,
Make lots of healthy cash.

And politicians know which side,
Their bread is buttered on;
So suck-up to the Fourth Estate,
And tabloid pantheon.

The problems will continue still,
'Til someone has the nerve;
To say our Press, like our MP's,
Are those that we deserve.

(1) This latest, of seven reports on the Press, cost £5.4 million.
