The Super Bowl money bowl

The Super Bowl has become synonymous capitalism. Super Bowl XLV is poised to become the most lucrative in the event's history, possibly generating more than $200 million in ticket sales and concessions alone. Some of the biggest, best-known companies each will pay $3.5 million to broadcast 30 seconds of advertising during the year's most-watched event. American consumers are expected to spend about $11 billion on items related to the big game, according to the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association.

All 137 luxury suites at the Indianpolis Colts Lucas Oil Stadium were sold out months before the opening kick-off with a minimum reported price of $80,000 per box.

The average viewer — 110 million or more are expected to tune in — will spend more than $60 on merchandise, apparel and snacks. About one in four viewers plan to attend a Super Bowl watch party, which will cost the host more than $100 on average. Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day of the year after Thanksgiving. Sales of flat-screen TVs spike in the week before the big game as about 5 million people planned to buy a TV specifically to watch the game
