The Rich Man and His Dogs

Once upon a time there was a rich man who lived in a big house on a hill. The rich man lived in luxury. At the foot of the hill was a village. The villagers lived in miserable cramped hovels with but a pittance to eat and drink. The land was a good one and the villagers clever and industrious. But alas the rich man owned a pack of vicious slavering dogs and with these was able to take the best part of whatever the villagers were able to grow or make, leaving them with just enough to live on. The villagers were not happy about this and would try to hold back as much as possible. But usually just the threat of the dogs was enough to make them part with their produce. Now after a while the villagers got wise to what was going on. They worked out that what they had to do was to get control of the dogs because then the rich man would have no power over them. This was not an easy task and required the help of all of them, for though they were many, the dogs were scary and strong. In time the deed was done, and, without his dogs, the rich man was unable to take away that which rightly belonged to the villagers. And they all lived happily ever after.
