Fact of the Day

Syria is scheduled to hold its presidential elections on June 3. The American media is mocking the idea of an election being held during a civil war.

We need not cite the recent election in Afghanistan, fully approved by the US and its allies, as an example but can refer the Americans to their own history. One hundred and fifty years ago, in 1864, the United States held a presidential election, three years into a bloody civil war. The Southern states, the insurgent "Confederacy", were, of course, not included. Lincoln was re-elected.

Definitely a case of government of some of the people, by some of the people, for some of the people.
